Hi everyone,

I just bought my first corvette. I was in California last week and bought a 69 matching numbers tri power 400hp convertable.
I had no intentions of buying a corvette as i also own a 66 ford mustang convertable.
I test drove the corvette and instantly fell in love with this car!
The power of a big block is awsome.
After doing a little research, I bought it! now i cant wait till i get it back home.
I looked in the black book and it says that they only made 2077 Tri powered 427 400hp, so i think i bought a rare car.
Does anyone else here have the same car?
Dan

Welcome to the forum Dan and congratulations on the purchase of the BB Vert. Any Pic’s?

Yes, there are a couple of 69 Tri powers in the club but their owners aren’t active on the forum.
The only thing left for you to do after the car arrives, is sell the mustang. :ral:

Our new corvette. What is something like this worth here in Australia?
Im going to insure the car through Shannons, but have no idea what it is worth. As you can see, Its in REALLY good condition.
Matching numbers, Receipts for engine re-build 1500miles ago ($6700)
Help with an estimate on what I should insure it for would be appreciated.

Cheers everyone,
Yes i do like the color. I almost bought a blue one , tri powered, but not matching numbers. These are very hard to find!
wow, 80 -100k! The guy i bought it of recons that over there, there is a slump in the market. he went on to say that its picking up and he wouldnt be suprised if these cars went under the hammer for 100k in the next couple years.
Shame he didnt have 2 of them, i would have bought them both!

Dan the market is down here
and that is to do with a lot of later C3 etc
being brought in to the country and flipped .
Good  quality cars will bring a good price
however than you will be selling to some one how know what they want and be prepared to pay a premium.

Yep, the market is down everywere. I bought 3 cars this trip. I only buy TOP quality. I have no intentions of selling the corvette, but, if someone offered the right money, I would sell it.

The folks who bring in the crap are ruining the market for everyone. wich is a shame

But, when the dollar drops (and it will) it will bring the value of our cars back up to were they should be

Bfit, what is your ride?

I don't believe that.

Quality cars will always be quality cars, if folks bring in crap your car will look like gold against it and will always rightfully demand a higher price in comparison.

You are correct, i was just implying from experience. People come look at cars and always say " I can buy one on ebay for half that"
I bring in cars to sell for a hobby , not a living. I ONLY bring in quality cars that i know i can sell
there is lots of crap out there, but , you are right, it makes the good cars look like gold.
So, I have 4 pots of gold!!!

Then tell them to go back to ebay and buy one, fact is they can't. The pictures usually look much better than the car does in the flesh.

Also, I've seen ads for Small Block C2 Corvettes with Big Block hoods and some people think they can sell them at the same price as a BB C2.  A BB hood isn't worth 30k, they figure it out soon enough when their car ads get no responses.

All BB Corvettes command much higher prices than their SB equivalents.

Same with TV auctions, the cars all look magnificent under fluoro lights but some are fetching double.  They look the same but in the flesh they're chalk and cheese.

Close up you can really pick the quality cars and even the ones that are very similar can vary wildly in price if they're numbers matching and/or have rare specs/options.

As above, anything looks good on TV or in a photo.
It takes time, money, research and alot of patience to buy a good corvette from the US
It took me over a year and around 15 inspections, but I finally found a car that was actually "as described"
In my experience, US car dealers are way overpriced or just selling junk and private sellers more honest in general.
But in all cases "buyer beware" and get it inspected !

You are correct! The mustang i bought a few years back was from a private seller. much better than a shop. much mor honest, but you have to know what you are looking at. dont trust anyone!!!

I bought this corvette from a dealer, but, it was a consignment car. I spoke with the owner who had the car for 22 years and he had all the paperwork and receipts to prove it.
I think I bought a good one.
I veiwed lots of corvettes that were in great shape, but a matching numbers one IS hard to find.

One guy told me he had a matching numbers car, so i drove accross LA (2 hrs on the 405) to take a look. Yes it was in origonal condition, but matching numbers, well, there were NO numbers on the block at all!! nothing worked and the paint looked nothing like the add.
Man I feel sorry for the guy who will proberbly buy this car site unseen on ebay.
I have bought many cars (and bikes) from the USA, and I  think I bought a good car at a very good price!

Yep, if the cheap stuff on eBay or carsales.com was any good it would sell the day it was listed. And how many do we see listed as a "project car" -- "needs some TLC" (... plus a boatload of cash, not to mention experience with working on Vettes.)
