The tiniest of midget cars

From the pages of http://blog.hemmings.com

Because we haven’t featured nearly enough newsreel footage or spin dizzy action around here comes this featurette titled Midget Motor Mania. According to the American Miniature Racing Car Association, these tiny six-pound versions of popular race cars were a hit with kids across the land.

Give a boy or man a motor, and the battle of skill and daring against the power of machines brings out fast and furious action – also the newsreel cameraman!

We can thank those intrepid cameramen for capturing this footage of auto racing for kids the way it used to be. Dizzy thrills and deadly spills, and watch that whirling, spinning, crash! Well not really. Check out the video for race cars that burn up an ounce of fuel per quarter mile.

Love it!

BTW: Tether car racing is alive and well, but these days some cars run on Nitro and top 200 mph:

... and you can see tether car racing as well as slot cars and other good stuff at Model Part, Luddenham, which has a public open day on the last Sunday of every month except December.

IMO, this would make a great Club run during the cooler months.

(Hint, hint Debbie!)
