To use Roll On-Roll Off Shipping Or Not To.........
« on: August 17, 2011, 03:48:06 PM »
This chap shipped his TA over using roll on-roll off.  He now has it for sale.  Read on to hear what he has to say.......

"Here I've for sale what's left of my 1979 Special 10th Anniversary Pontiac Firebird Trans Am this car was and still is a 100% rust free TA. 78,000 miles on the clock. I purchased this vehicle just on 2 months ago, and while shipping RORO by H#### #########s the damage you see occurred.
But at least they said sorry, NOT!  the asking price is to cover my freight - towing - ports fees etc etc."

Woooo that  is not a good look
By the looks  those photos it was not the only vehicle that came loose
may be they came across in very large seas

I would think that is what you would get insurance for just in case  something goes wrong

I shipped my vehicles in through mainfrieght
circumstances sore one of the cars come in to Brisbane
and the car was damaged
I live south of Sydney
mainfreight told me of the damage
got some quotes and offered to repair or pay a repair of my choice
You can not ask more that that

OMG! That's tragic.

Worst I'd seen before that mess was a Vette which had oil and brake fluid dripped onto it from the car above it in the container. (Moral: get the top berth).
It's C3 chromie for me, see? Si!

Yep, even worse when it's a convertible with top down or white rag top.

New cars are shipped all around the world roll on roll off, accidents sometimes happen, even on relatively short crossings if you can cast your mind back to 2016 when many cars got damaged on the ferry to Tasmania. The other way you can look at it is containers are known to fall off of ships from time to time.
Accidents happen :(

When you put your cargo on the sea , you thought the dice and take the chance .
No matter how the freight is carried.

Costs only around $450-$550 to insure a Car point to point from USA to Syd , had damage occur in containers on load/unload and marine insurance has paid out each time ... well worth it !

Marine Insurance is a mine field .
There are more get outs than you would imagine.
And getting a payout is not guarantied,  read the fine print you may find weather related damage is not covered.
