Some Useless information
« on: July 22, 2011, 05:49:16 PM »
So, I was sitting in this waiting room today, with nothing to do but read the latest copy of Just Cars.

Mmmm..... I thought, there seems to be few 'Vettes for sale at the moment, so I counted them. By year model, it went like this.

'68        5 of
'69        1 of
'70        4 of
'71        3 of
'72        5 of
'73        1 of
'74        4 of
'75        3 of
'76        6 of
'77        9 of
'78        6 of
'79        3 of
'80        2 of
'81        4 of
'82        1 of
'86        4 of
'87        1 of
'88        2 of
'89        2 of
'91        1 of
'93        1 of

I can remember the days when, and it wasn't that long ago, there might be 3 or 4 'Vettes for sale. Now there's 68 of them on the market, just in this magazine, right here in Oz.

So. if you've wondered why the value of your 'Vette, particularly a C3, has fallen lately, this could be the reason why.

I get the impression that boatloads of them are being brought in on the back of the weak greenback and many Americans doing it tough, being out of work, etc.

I also see online ads by Oz importers for C3s that appear to be still in the USA.

I guess that many of these C3s would be in the category of "20 footers" -- i.e. they look okay from 20 feet away.
It's C3 chromie for me, see? Si!

Count how many of those cars have 'import approval' and have never been registered in aus...
Cheap nasty imports for a quick buck.

Now C5 has  made a good statement
I am looking for another C3  for various reasons
And  some of whats on offer is quite sad ( to be polite )

I like many others have purchased cars in the US and  not been happy with the  product that arrived
Buyer  Be ware as the saying goes

And  yes there is a few people out there
trying to capitalize  on  the market
how ever at least when the car is here you can look at what you are buying and walk away.
The good vehicles for sale will get a good price

Indeed a lot of people will be burned on these 'buy-and-hope' imports. After my experiences looking at cars in the warmer desert states, I can only imagine the junk that comes from the Northern states.

I saw a Mustang that came in sight unseen at $7K + import costs and it was a mess. Body rust included as a freebie, as was a disgraceful vinyl roof and interior in tatters. In my shopping I came across "Chic's Corvettes" in Vegas who was selling, literally, polished turds. Dodgy cars with a cheap and nasty coat of paint then shipped around the world.
