« on: July 04, 2011, 11:27:20 AM »
Hello   vette nuts
Has any one  got any info on fitting a Tremec 6060 Holden 6 speed in to a C3
I am looking to but behind a BB
The main   problem looks  to be the shifter mechanism

Any input please

The bell housing is a different pattern to suit the LSx engines.  Will still bolt to the old small block chev, but with fewer bolts.  I believe you also need a spacer somewhere to make everything line up.
It takes a standard yoke, so no problems getting the tailshaft modified to fit.
There is no provision for a mechanical speedo on the aussie gearboxes, so you need to get the right tail section from the states (if you can), get a digital-mech speedo converter box (expensive) or change to an electric speedo.
The shifter will roughly come out in the correct place.  If you have an auto car, you will need to fab up a new gearbox cross member or mod yours to suit as the mount for the T56 is further back.  If you have a factory manual car, the x-member is welded in and will need to be cut and modified.

The T56 uses a hydraulic clutch, so you will need to switch over from the old mechanical unit.

That's all I can think of from the top of my head.  I have a quote from Mal Wood Automotive to supply a modified box to suit a SBC with the mechanical speedo. It wasn't cheap.

Was a better option to get a complete TKO kit from the states. (and over a grand cheaper)

Actually, the best price I got was from Vettes by design, but he went MIA half way through.  He's a vette guy who does restos. American powertrain came in second.

I saved up for the box, and had to make the purchase before I get married as it may have been much harder after that :)

That's the converter I was referring to. For some reason I was thinking it was more than $325.
