Number Plate Size Help
« on: June 09, 2011, 08:35:47 PM »
I'm about to order some new number plates for a new beasty.

I'm going 5 digit black and white.  According to the RTA site weather they are 6 digit or 5 digit, they reckon they are all 372mm wide.  When I measure my existing 5 digit black and white plates they are only 315mm wide. (372mm wide will not fit)

My question, has anybody very, very recently purchased 5 digit black and white plates and if so would you be so kind to measure their width and report back please.  (I'm concerned that the size of ALL plates in this style is now the one size/width)

The style I refer to is as shown on Priscilla here

Thanks
Cam

I'm going for the five digit as the plate should be not as wide as a 6 digit, that's what I'm hoping as that is how it use to be.

Correct, 5 digit is smaller than 6 that's still the same today...

I can't find the actual dimensions on their website anymore, but what the RTA calls "AA-999" format plates are narrower than the "AAA-999" plates.

Width-wise, the AA-999 format comes closest to the American plates of the era and easily fits at the front of my 70 Vette.

So, unless the RTA has changed the dimensions in the last 2 years or so, you should be okay with AA-999 format.

It's C3 chromie for me, see? Si!

Mate I will have two vehicles here at wok later in the day  one with older 5 Digit plates and one about 8 month old 5 digit.
I will come back with the measurements

Although I could not see the 5 digit plate looking correct proportionally   if the same length as the  6  digit  one
