Yes foam pads are the go, as when you buy polish packed in a box they have foam applicators. foam buff pads are up to   $35 -$40

You guys shd be asking Brutus;i think he is the world champion polisher....thunderkiss isn't too shabby either in the polishing department......me,there is no point polishing my beautiful dark brown vette because even though i love it,it will never win anything......unless we have a restricted trophy class,ie.best looking dark brown 74 class,so long as i'm the onlt enrty i must be some chance of winning...john:P

Seriously, I've only polished my car twice in the 7 years I've owned it!  Before I bought the car it was resprayed in Glasurit 2 pack and it comes up pretty shiney after just a wash and chamois.
