dash-birdcage filler panel
« on: June 01, 2011, 10:10:35 AM »
As I was pulling out my dash last night, I noticed that when looking through the windscreen, there is a gap between the dashboard and the birdcage that I can see straight though and I can see in behind the dash.  I can also see the top of the birdcage.

Am I missing something along the back of the dash top here?  I didn't take any pics last night to help explain what I mean.

The car is a 73 vert with an 80's front clip and dash.

Do you have a picture Scott.

Are you referring to the front edge of the Dash Pad where it meets the bottom of the windscreen .  If so there would be a lip that it sits on top of.

Here are some pics of the gap.  I'm sure something is supposed to be filling it.

I see what U mean...

My 71 has a small metal lip that the dash pad sits on with clips

The bracket also holds it up and in place.

Your 80 Dash may need a much bigger filler panel than that.

Get a copy of the 80 AIM page showing the dash assembly and  we can compare it to the 71 AIM.

The extra 40mm blacked out on the screen would certainly cover it from the outside.

The inside would still need something though to finish off the look.  My birdcage doesn't have those brackets either.  Judging by the look of it, the birdcage was replaced with a new one sometime before I got the car, but wasn't painted... Well, actually, only the bits you can see were painted.

I'll have a flick through my Aim.
