Chrome Plating - Show Quality?
« on: November 03, 2003, 09:32:36 PM »
I'm in Sydney and I would like a recommendation on who I should take my door posts, windscreen posts and bumpers to for a show quality chome plating job. I am told that not every plater can do a quality job on the door and windscreen posts because they are made from "pot metal".

There was a mob at Rooty Hill that does "show quality" chrome work. All Metal Bumpers I think their name was. I have their card here somewhere I think.

Unfortunatly there is not many good chromers around, especialy of show quality, they will all tell you its show quality BUT it aint.I even tried ENWARE - who make chrome taps etc, they cant even do a proper job(plus they are expensive) and they are a huge company.Apparently its because in Oz we cant use the same banned poisonous chemicals the Americans use for their perfect chrome jobs. But im sure there is someone out there in Oz that can do it!;30;30;30;30;30:20:20:20:20

Andy...I gave Enware a miss when they told me they couldn't do my bits because of the difficulty in polishing them......so I left.
Been going to Ferguson's at Carlton for quite a while now, but their polisher has left (died I think), so I'm looking for a new plater too. There is another mob just near Fergusons that I might try next time.

G'day Bob, if fergusons is in planthurst street at Calton you are probably refering to Star Chrome. The guys name is John and a very nice guy but if you are wanting a good job and it done with in a reasonable time frame PLEASE DON'T GO THERE. The first time I went to him he did a reasonable job and had my parts back in 3 days so I started to refer him. well the 3 days went to 3 weeks then 3 months. In the end they took that long and the quality was that poor that he didn't even charged us. I guess it is the same as your original place Star Chrome too lost his polisher and thats when it all stopped happening.

Thanks for the tip off Steve. Yes Fergusons is in Planthurst Rd and I think that was the name of the other place...round the corner near the cement works. Looks like we'll have to travel further afield for our next plating jobs in future.

I have been told that Triple Chrome near Inverell can do diecast metal, The guy there is Glen Gleeson and he and his Dad apparently slave over customers jobs.

Thats him Bob right next to the cement works, like I said great guy but a little dodgie quality wise and very very slow. There is another mob i have heard of called blue chrome, they are located in condell park but I could not make a recommendation as I have never dealt with them. Happy hunting and be sure to let us know if you find a good one.
Cheers

I might give that guy a go at least once to see how they perform, but I won't be waiting weeks for my parts back I can guarantee it!:b2
