I'm not from Sydney, but I am a new believer of a good dyno tune.

I had my ute dyno tuned (HQ with 350 chev) after I made some intake changes to straight gas.

When I left the guy had found me an extra 40 rear wheel horse power more than when I drove it in... Not a bad horsepower gain for a tune up. The only changes he did were to check the timing, changed the plugs cause the ones in it were sh#te, he also milled the gas jet as it was leaning out too much then tuned it correctly. All that = 40rwhp gain.

Long story short - look for dyno tuning places!

Have a look in the Club Advertisers section of the Web Site. There's a card from S.R Performance in Arncliffe. I suggest you give Steve a call.

Hi Tony,

I agree with Demonx, find someone who has a dyno in their shop. Depending on where you live, towards the City or Western suburbs

SR Performance has one in his shop and will look after you.

I’ve used a guy at Blacktown for many years and have recommended him to Club members

Tony

Make sure they understand you’re after a tune up! Not a flogging of the old girl on the Dyno to see how much HP it has.

They should run the car at speed (60 to 80)  check the mixture for air and fuel .Then if you’re happy and game enough to allow them to rev the you know what out of it then go for it.

IMO, if the car has lots of miles on it I wouldn’t bother

Agree with above - when mine was dyno tuned it never went over 100km hour. It was for tuning purposes only. Definitely not like the youtube dyno shootout videos!

Hi All,
Thanks all for the input and advise..
I done it. It hurt but i got through it.
It hurt me that is not my car.
Before we started I had a long talk about how much i don't like Dyno's and what I would like to get out of this. I wanted more a dygnostics of what was happening rather than trying to squeeze max HP out of it
I went to Dyno tune at Moorebank. Jason explained what he was about to do and explain what happened when he did it.
The most pleaseing thing was in the end i was able to drive my car home.
Results;
I believe that In 1971 the 454 made 365hp
Yesterday we got 220 rwhp
I guess that's not bad for a 40 year old stocker  :shades:

Glad your happy.

Does it seem to run a lot better?

With the numbers you have to understand a couple things...
365hp numbers are exagerated sales speak and front end numbers.
With a C3 you loose nearly 20-25% horses by the time it hits the rubber
When they tuned it on the dyno, if they tuned seriously they would have had it in an accurate program not a shootout program. The difference in numbers could is massive between the programs. When my ute was done he did one run in shootout mode compared to an accurate mode and it was a 50rwhp difference.

So all that taken into consideration your 220 seems like a solid realistic number.
