I hope this link works?
« on: March 13, 2010, 12:46:02 PM »
Hi All!

I am seriously considering driving the Vette to Perth to attend the Convention in April.  I understand this to be a huge journey but I think one that everyone should try once in their lifetime.  I am having the car checked over by Steve (SR Performance) on Wed and prepped for the journey.  I figure it will take about 4 – 5 days of constant driving but I am hoping to take a few extra days just for sightseeing.

Any tips from you guys would be most appreciated and if there is ANYONE that would like to join me in your Vette then the company would be welcomed.

Before you sit there and say “I am crazy” for even contemplating this trip just consider this….if you had the time and the opportunity to drive to Perth across the Nullarbor Plain what car would you want to do it in?.....:smirk:

Good read!  Thanks for that!  Not sure what condition the paint will be in with stone chips etc but as long as we don't hit a ROO (which will probably just fly over the car and into our laps if we have the top down..:rol:) we should make it OK!

Thanks for the comments Coradict72...

I like to think of it as taking yet another adventure but this time in one of the best cars on the planet.  We all have one life and being afraid of a few rattles, some dust is not enough to make me take a plane and not live a little...not sure about that itchy butt you talk about (I do shower everyday....:mmm:)

My understanding is the roads are all sealed so the only thing that I will probably be doing is putting a few more miles on her.  She is my daily driver anyway (always has been since I got her).  After the trip she will just have a little more character...  Not really concerned if no one wants to buy her after the trip as I will probably just tuck her away in the garage and have something to talk about when friends come over for BBQ's ("here is the car that took me right across Australia").

I intend to make a photograph and video blog of my adventures, the people I meet along the way and the beautiful landscape that most Australians never see...all done from the seat of a CORVETTE....sounds AWESOME!  I will post it up on youtube and send you guys the link...just have to remember to take plenty of water....:drink:

Am I Living?...absolutely!....
Another adventure to tell the Grand kids about?....YEP!:blah:
Am I CRAZY?.....I hope so.....:rol:

Street Machine had an article a few months back about someone driving a commondore show car long distances.  They had a cleam rubber like coating put on the front of the car to protect it.  Stops the stone chips, then it just peels off afterwards leaving nice clean paint.  I can't remember which issue it was off the top of my head but I can have a look when I get home.

There'd be quite a few of us interested in that product.

good on you c6 vert, what better way to make the trip in a late model vett,it will be a adventure that you will cary for life, yes you will get some stone chips but they can be fixed when you get back home,as for the rattles well lets have some faith in the gm engineeriring, and if someting breaks well i am sure it can be fixed,i have a c3 and would not attempt such a trip, just going to sydney is an effort, look forward to your posts          have a great time
