Original owner and driver Dave Tennet, then a 20 year old apprentice, commenced building it in 1962 or thereabouts, so that's the age of the design. He paid 120 quid for the Merlin -- a lot of money for a young bloke back then.

a mate of mine found a R/R MERLIN motor that was Supercharged from the factory[proto type]
The motor is now in the Canberra war memorial.

All Merlins were supercharged. They started out at around 1000hp. By the end of the war they were putting out almost double that with two speed two stage blowers.
The rear fin actually served a purpose and kept the boat straight at 170 mph

i'll try to find out for you whats special about this merlin engine,i was told that there is only 2-3 left in the world and he still gets people trying to buy it.
