How wide can I go
Gray-man:
Hi Guys I am looking for a set of Simmons V5 wheels for my standard 74 Coupe,I have found a set the front ones are 15+8 with the same offset as my standard Rallye's so thats ok but the back ones are 15+10 with265/60's on them with 4 1/2" back space they are in another state so I cant try them can anyone tell me if they will fit I have seen tyres this wide on another vette but dont know if it has been modified your help would be appreciated
WARFARIN:
Gray-man,
Surely the seller can tell you if the Vette they are from has offset trailing arms??
I think there is a thread here [somewhere] that discussed this.
One of the "Administrators" might know? Cam where are you??
A 265 in a 60 profile will have a slightly larger rolling diameter. Better cruising, but slower off the mark!
69 DIRTY RAT:
Its hard to say if they'll fit? 4 1/2" is ok and 265's would normally fit BUT 60 series will be tall and may rub your lip under the guards and 10in wide wheels usually wouldnt fit but maybe if you raised the back it might fit? cause the tyres wouldnt go past the guards??
Thunder Kiss:
A 245/60-15 (front) will be exactly the same height as a 295/50-15 (rear) and the 295 will be the perfect tyre for a 15x10" rim.
But I don't think a 4.5" backspace will work unless you have fender flares. You really need a 6 or 6.5" backspace to work with standard guards.
You will need to modify/change you rear trailing arm to accommodate such a large rear tyre.
Here's a photo you can use for comparison.
Note a 295/50-15 will have a lot more sidewall bulge than the 18" tyre in this photo:
Thunder Kiss:
Oh, the 265/60 tyres fitted to those rims are OK but 15x10" rims really suit wider tyres better.
I'd give this deal a miss, the wheels will stick out 2" further than the photo above.
