PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- Some Corvette sports car enthusiasts are putting the pedal to the metal for cancer research.
On Wednesday, they arrived in Maine after leaving Atlanta, Georgia on Friday. Maine is the northernmost stop in their trek.
When they arrive back in Atlanta, they will have travelled through 15 states in nine days, and raised $10,000.
"We know that the corvette naturally is an attention getter, so we thought that we would put a positive spin on that, get the attention of the public with the car and teach them and share information about breast cancer awareness and early detection being a very important key," said Cha Cha Chapman from Corvettes Serving America.
Organizers of the trip say they were surprised to find gas prices in Maine are about the same as in Atlanta. They thought they would be much higher here.
