Why do they do that ?
If I had to guess, it would be purely to get the exhaust out as quickly as possible.

The story of this ZL-1 has been out for a while! I even mentioned it in my story in VETTTE mag back in Oct 06 (which was Dec issue!)
The exhaust is probably straight through! There probably wasnt many laws about noise on race tracks back then?
