Make sure the connector at the wiper switch hasn't been plugged in upside down. On my 70 the previous owner had told me the wiper system had gremlins in it, he had tried everything to get it working but just couldn't, after getting the car and spending 5mins flipping over the connector they worked fine (a knowledgeable friend had told me to check this first) ;laugh
Not sure if it is the same for your '76, just an idea though.
sirfixalot:
Have just gone through the exercise with the left hand arm flipping off the windscreen on high speed it is fixed by making the crank arm on the arm pivot slightly longer this is done by taking some of the set out of the crank (25 x 3 mm flat bar) can be varied by up to 5mm in length, less set longer arm less sweep of the wiper arm it may then be necessary to adjust angle of the wiper arm at top of the stroke to be parrallel with the windscreen frame and readjust the drive rod from the motor .Lots of trial & error. White wire is 12v + purple is to ground via switch & gives fast speed grey & purple to ground gives low speed wire connections are purple top white middle & grey at the bottom of terminal block. This is how my 78 is wired any questions give me a call Geoff 0417473492
