Duntov Lightweight Coming Down Under For Targa Tas & Update
« on: March 20, 2007, 03:21:19 PM »
Some info one of our new members wanted to share

(I've been asked to post this letter sent to the club as it may be of interest to some of you.  It will be nice to have someone to barrack for in this years Targa now...)

"I thought I should give you a little background on Alan Sevadjian who recently joined your club as a requirement for a CAMS licence to compete in the Tasmania Targa event this April.

Alan is the owner of Duntov Motors llc, Farmers Branch, Dallas Texas, USA, I think he will advertise in the magazine for his Fast Corvette range of replacement products as well as The Duntov Lightweight.

Alan owned one of the five '63 Grand Sports (#03) that Zora Duntov created, and raced it in 65.

He is now reproducing these cars with the approval of Elfi Duntov as well as tacit approval from GM (as long as they are not registered for road use in the US) The complete story can be found on his website,

Click this pic for his website

The first of these cars will arrive in Australia at the end of March to be prepared for the Targa Tasmania and Alan will arrive in April to drive it with myself navigating. This car is set up as a road registered race car with a Hans Feustel racing prepared 383 producing 596 HP at 6500rpm and 514 ft/lbs torque, this in a car weighing 1100Kgs should prove interesting.  This car is accepted by CAMS as a 1963 car in division 3F for tarmac rallys.

A road version of the lightweight with a Jack Rousch 425hp engine will arrive towards May-June and will be for sale, I will advertise details when it arrives in the magazine.

I hope this is of interest to your members.

Regards  Bruce thomas"

G'day gang.  Thought you would be interested in the updates on this .  Following are copies of some e-mails, sent to our club, from Allen at Duntov Motor Comany to Bruce, who is the chap here in Australia.  Pics included.  Enjoy

Feb 11th
"Bruce,
I think you will agree, Tassie looks awesome.
The headers in the pic are plastic - we model them first, then make them out of stainless steel.  We will be welding them tomorrow.

Alan"

"Bruce,

Here is what things look like this minute.  The radiator will be installed later today.  The differential is being hung in place right now, then the rest of the rear suspension.

The front suspension and steering parts will be installed tomorrow.

Thanks again.
Alan"

Good Morning Bruce,

We are three days from LA, and are about to start the engine in the car for the first time.

The brakes are bled.  The electrical is completely finished and tested.

The car will be on the floor this afternoon, and we will then install the carpeting and the seats.

The windshield guy has an appointment here at 8:30 tomorrow morning.

I will call Mike tomorrow morning and confirm that we will be there as scheduled.

The car is awesome!

Latest updates gang....

"Subject: Fw: Targa Images

Morning Tracey, These are some images from the Targa, we were going great guns, lying 31st out of 285 cars until Saturday arvo when we had a shock absorber blow on Cethana a 32Km stage. The shocker dumped it's oil on the disc and caused that front wheel to lock when Alan went for the brakes. Unfortunately one locked front wheel cancelled any attempt to steer and we hit the Armco at about 40 Kms
this effectually finished our Targa  for this year. The car is being shipped back to Texas to be repaired and modified to better suit this type of event, and will be back in time to compete in the Classic Adelaide with Alan coming over to drive.  This time he reckons we stand a great chance of winning this event, now that he knows what it is all about.

Regards
Bruce"
