I spent the last couple of days at Eastern Creek having some fun... :evil

I did an ARDC Drivers Education day on Thursday and then a combined clubs SuperSprint on Sunday. The Drivers Ed improved my lap times by around 2s (now 1:51.30s) and made me feel a whole more comfortable around Eastern Creek.

;46

I recommend the ARDC DE days for anyone interested.

BTW: A NSW Corvettes member came by and said hello after finding that a lot of the HSV Club members he came to see had gone home broken.  :ado

If I step out the old girl and loose her one more time I'm going to shoot myself.  Gotta learn how to hadle these LS diffs.

The one at Eastern Creek was $250 for the day giving you LOTS of track time (80+ laps), access to driving instructors to help you improve and a not very exciting lunch. It does assume however that you are confident with your car handling skills to begin with.

If you want to improve your car handling skills I recommend instead the Peter Finlays Race Drivers course I have mentioned in other threads. Murray Forman and Bob Lynne went on one with me last year. $700 for 2 days but at the end of it you know your car and how it behaves under almost every condition.

Don't know about god like but there is certainly a wide smile.

The thing that brings you down to earth is that about 2s after you are doing 220 kmh you are hanging on with everything you've got (toes, fingers, buttocks) sliding the car around a 90 degree corner doing in excess of 160kmh wondering "am I going a bit quick?".;eek

I love how you can see (and this is rare for you and a factor of finding the limits) you can see the car move around a little towards the middle and later half of the vid.  I bet it was a blast. :v

Yep that was the first run of the day so at the start the tyres were cold. Around the third lap they got up to temperature and all was good.

Unfortunately as the day got hotter the tyres never cooled down to temperature and I never got within 2s of these times. This is made worse because we only have a third of a lap cool down and we have to park with brakes still at 250 degrees C so the wheels just bake.

I've been looking for uses for that image for a while. It is a single frame of video taken as I went over the dip after turn 3 at Oran Park South about a year ago.

What's with the gloves?  Was it cold?   ;--

Looks like an awesome day and a great circuit - better than Qld raceway where there are only 2 left hand turns!

Eastern Creek is an awesome track - IMO you can't compare it with Oran Park or Wakefield because of it's speed and size.  It's on another level altogether.:v

JPM Photographics does the shoot for all events at Eastern Creek. This is the one that I think surprised me the most, mid-corner at turn 4.

It always feels really flat on the inside but the outside tells a different story with about 100m difference in ride height right to left. The right hand rear has rim showing at the bottom as the tyre flexes the sidewall. I must be starting to accelerate as the rear has squatted and the left hand front contact patch has shrunk. The datalogger I use tells me I pull about 1.3g lateral here.

How do you get that cool overlay on your video showing speed, gear, rpm etc??

I use a DL1 datalogger from

www.race-technology.co.uk

record the in-car video on a Panasonic DV videocam then download it to a PC using firewire, then join it all together using

www.trackvision.net

The only modification I made to the car was to run a tach signal to the datalogger which then works out everything else (HP, torque, gear, ...).

While it produces some really cool video, I use it to learn to drive better. Before a track day I spend about half the day watching the video of the best laps I have done at that circuit and try to see where I could do better (lines, braking, shift points, gears selection, different compromises, ...).
