C6 Corvettes
Corvette:
Hey people, just thought I'd drop in and ask some questions.
I'm an American Aussie in the USA and I came across some of the car websites in Australia, and I saw a couple of C6 Corvettes listed for around AU$190,000. Is this correct? How well and how fast do they sell there and for how much?
Also a side question, how many cars can anyone sell in NSW and Victoria before having to get a dealers license?
If anyone needs help with getting a car from here let me know. I have familiarized myself with the importation process and costs because I might be in Australia mid next year, and I might bring in a car or two with me.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Corvette, welcome to our forum. ;32 From what I understand if you undertake the process yourself your costs are likely to be closer to the $160-$170K mark.
There are only a handfull (read a couple) of C6's that are actually complianced and legal to use in Australia.
You would also be well advised to get in touch with the forum member TopDog about his experiences - he currently has a C6 vert for sale.
Corvette:
Thanks man. Dang, I made a calculation and it was closer to the AU$145,000 range, wow, I guess being in the US makes a difference, unless I'm missing something else?
Thanks for the lead, I'll try to get in touch with him too.
Do you know anything about the number of cars anyone can sell privately without having to get a dealers license? In NSW and Victoria?
Last, are these C6 Corvettes selling for that much, I mean are people actually paying this much for them, and how long are they taking to sell? This is very interesting, cause I'm looking at prices here and in Australia and I'm amazed.
Thanks again

Unfortunately I can't shed any definite information about how many cars you can sell before requiring a dealers license in either state, although one of our other forum members may know.
I haven't done the sums myself recently, but you basically need to factor in the car cost, shipping, GST/Tax, Conversion (It think it is $35-$40K for a C6 conversion from what I inderstand).
MR502 on this forum has done the maths and could likely shed some light.
I can relate about costs. Most of my American friends can't believe what I paid for my 90 back in 1998. Nor can they believe what I tell them a C5 or C6 would cost me. It's mainly the tax and conversion side of things that blows costs out so much. :b2
If it helps, I only know of the one C6 that is converted, complied and for sale in NSW (and that is TopDogs car). I know of another but that has not been delivered yet. There may very likely be others but I am not aware of any. As far as whether these cars sell and how long it takes, I can't offer any firsthand knowledge, anything I could say would be no better than a guess unfortunately.
If you were considering bringing a car or two in with you, you may want to consider an earlier car to ease the process of legalising and onselling it if that is your plan.

Hi Corvette, I'm not 100% certain but I beleive you can sell either 4 or 5 cars per year in Victoria before you have to get an LMCT.
