I don't know anything about steering boxes and conversions but- how do we know its not from a LHD car? Wouldn't that explain why its mounted on the right side of the rail?

It's a good thought but, not having seen a LHD version before, do they fit on the inside or the outside of the rail ... ? Also, having performed a few of these in the past, I would have thought that Steve would have recognised it it that were the case.

Adam:
It may not be a vette steering box even... which of course put u back to square 1.. but its fun to speculate.

I'm pretty sure its on the inside too, I spent many hours staring at those areas when i was changing engine mounts. And there is actually more space on the left side.
