Over-heating problems 1970 vette

Hi everyone , Got my 1970 vette 2 weeks ago , I'm having over-heating problems when mainly sitting in traffic , It has a electric fan mounted on inside of radiator and the top half of the fan shroud is missing , Have had the radiator re-cored and put in a 6 core and going to toss the electric fan and find a complete new fan shroud and re-install the original engine fan , Was wondering if anyone knows where you can get a replacment fan shroud

Pretty much a C3's need a shroud!  There is nothing wrong with electric fans, it's just C3's suffer from poor stationary airflow.

They'll even overheat with the normal fan if there is no shroud!!

Has the beast been converted to right hook?  If so did they move the motor over so as to fit the steering box.  If so you will find that the original fan shroud will not allow the fitting of the standard clutch fan.  This is because with the motor moved over the fan is no longer in line with the shroud.

In this instance the shot is to either:-

'A' get the shroud modified to align with the fan, i.e. an after market fibreglass shroud,

OR 'B' a suitable smaller fan that will fit while maintaining correct air flow.

Hmmm.. thats a good point Cam,

However, if you look at Jolinari car, it sits pretty perfect with the conversion and all.

A shroud would definately help if its still running the original clutch fan.. maybe thats crapped out and need replacement?

Also check the thermostat and also the radiator cap?  They could be faulty.

Some conversions are done without moving the motor.  It all depends on who did the conversion.  There were quite a few I believe back then.

Most don't bother to move the motor.... but you knever know!

I had a C3 once that would overheat if it had a thermostat in it.  You would be surprised how much all the built up rust etc can contribute to higher temps.  When I rebuilt my C4 I had the block dipped and it now runs 10 deg C lower.

Yeah when i took the radiator to the repairer , He said it had been repaired a few times before but he seems to think it is the original radiator , So i had him remove one tank so that i could see inside and found the bottom was just rusty sludge partially blocking some off the tubes , The car had been sitting in a garage for about two years prior to me purchasing it
