another buddy has a 77,its a nice car,but hes stumped with some numbers on vin plate.
top left corner has ...   zj1  .... any info on what it means would be great.;42

hey Nifty 77 vette's Serial numbers ranged from 1Z37*7S400001 to 1Z37*7S449213

L = L48 350-cid V8, 180-hp, 4-barrel
X = L82 350-cid V8, 210-hp, 4-barrel

r u sure ZJ1 and r u sure it is on the vin?

i havnt seen it yet,but mate gus with the 80 vette,tells me its on left hand top corner of plate...seperate from vin.hes never seen another with this stamping and cant find anythink in his books as to what it could be.

yep.just sent text to gus....stamped left hand top corner in capitals..... ZJ1 will try and get a photo of it.

r u sure it is  stamped on a plate on the inner vertical surface of the left windshield pillar visible through the windshield?

Hey Nifty...

In 1977 the body trim plate code ZJ1 which is located in the upper left corner just above the interior code stands for (CUSTOM INTERIOR TWO-TONE). This option was never listed in any sales brochures or dealer handouts

NOW your mate should be happy and hopefully will restore his car to its original condition ;41

do you mean 4 to 5% or 4 to 5 cars?

5 cars are currently recordered in the USA...having said that does not mean that there are only 5 cars with this option. Many people are not aware when it come to numbers.

just got a call from gus...them numbers are for later vettes jo.feel free to delete them.he was talking about 2 other cars.first number is from a dealer who sold the most vettes in 86,so chevy painted 50 cars in 2 tone colours to be sold through his dealership.dont know about the other numbers.
