Corvette Custom Boom Box, With Speakers...measurements?

has any one done such a thing for a C3? or do you have some measurements for it?

Pls note it is 72 convertible and space is limited...

I dont really want import it from the states, Would rather to do it locally?

Any recommendations? I am in Sydney (inner West)

Jolinari,

If you want to, i have a friend who is an accoustic consultant who specialises in designing enclusures for speakers and custom boom boxes just like the one you want. All you need is to advise him of the space, (ie where its going) what speakers you want to run and presto.

He can come up with the enclosure to give you the maximum effect for sound quality. He has designed stuff for cars in sound offs etc.

I was thinking of th same thing...Ive got some really nice boston accoustic 6" three way drivers sitting in the cupboard i want to do the same thing with them and intergrate them with a cd player.

Its a great idea, but an inconvenience if you have to move it all the time.

I know one of the guys in the club has made one up and he will be at the next club meet. If you remind me about it, i will introduce you to him.

Perfect timing for this thread Joe - I'm thinking about some subs in a box for one of my cars and have been wondering about who to get advice from regarding box dimensions and design (no time to look into working it out for myself). I've been putting off buying some subs as I want to make sure what I get will do what I want in the space I have.

Wait to hear the sound system in my beast, 6" 3 ways in the front and "Infinity"oval 6"x 9" 3 ways in the back. No vibration but if I crank the base right up I can feel it through the back of the seat, and I have not added an amp yet. Don't know where to put the sucker. MMMMMM;)

So Joe who's beast is getting the boom boxes?

I feel your pain - I just bought an amp after checking all of the specs except for the size

Now I have to find where to best mount a 1ft x 2ft amp. ;40 Imagine my surprise when it arrived on my doorstep. ;53

it is mine Cam.

The set up that i have now is bit of joke...Some portable Logitech speakers and a sign wave inverter to transform the power from 240v to 12V battery....Well can not really complain but the only thing that annoy me is the life of the 12 V battery, 6 hours and it takes 30 hours to recharge it....

So thats why i am looking at having different set up

On some C3's I think about 1968 to early 70
Check between the fuel tank and the rear wall of your interior
Some have a huge gap where you can install speakers.
These gaps I use to install speaker boxes (made of fibreglass).
It enables you to put large speakers on the back wall (either side of interior light assembly)
The amp is mounted under the rear deck lid on coupes
Mounting of the amp in roadsters in another matter depending upon the amps size. The size of the amp ;30;42will tell you where to do it.
Like all ideas it requires a lot of work and naturally fibreglassing

Have you looked at what Bill did with his? He has 4 speakers in the back on the back panel. They are mounted on a board that is secured to the back wall.

You can just make out the wooden panel through his wind screen here.

fibreglass work can be done by anyone who knows how to.
It isn't that difficult, and the speaker boxes are basically square.
You lay fibreglass on a sheet of steel first, let dry. This will give you a large sheet of fibreglass that you can cut to size and glue together. You then install the speakers in the speaker boxes checking for fit and clearance in the speaker boxes, making sure that the depth and air displacement will be ok for the back of your vette.
You then remove the spearker and attach the boxes to your corvette and fibreglass them into place.
Amp mounts are also made from fibreglass so the amp can simply be installed and removed for servicing.
Carpet in some cases can be used to cover various items to hide the mounts/speaker boxes.:;mmm;);28

I guess u got remove the soft top in order to do a clean job...and gee removing the soft top is a big one i think

I will see which option is more suitable

How thick do you do the glass sheet?

Not at all just lift the soft top up as if you were putting it up due to rain.
Leave the back of the soft top up and forward as far as possibe, and leave the deck lift up as well.
And you have all the space in the world
Well at least the size of a match box.;41

Hey cam is this where I say "not as thick as some";41;53
The thickness of the fibreglass should be about 4-5mm
Anything less is a bugger to work with as the glue does not have enought surface for a reasonable bond.
Add black pigment to the glass this will make it much easier to gauge the thickness.;43

I like what Bill has done with his speakers, it looks great and it doesn't interfere with your limited storage space. :spook

Great advice chromie. Its a bit of work, but possibly the best thing given the luggage area. ;51
