I believe this forum is about helping, people who have the same love, "Corvettes".
It's easy to make hollow statements, that what I wrote was incorrect; it's harder to inform us with the correct information, rather than leaving us all in the dark.
When I went through this six years ago with my C5 and all the work I have done to bring the vehicle to its present state. All the C5's I have looked at and believe there is very little I haven't seen or done or help a C5 owners with problems.
If I had my chance again, I wouldn't change a thing, best car I have ever owned and loved every minute of it and feel the majority of converters are very similar, all have good and bad points.

Importing a vehicle into Australia is very simple if you follow a few simple rules;35
Rule # 1 Decide exactly what type/year of vehicle you want.:luv
Rule # 2 Contact Federal Roads & Traffic Authority (vehicle import section) and ask if this vehicle can be registered in Australia if so what is required (get the correspondence in writing);49
Rule # 3 Contact Australian Customs and ask them what they require (get correspondence in writing);49
Once you have these three rules completed straight away import the vehicle do not import three or six months later.;40
Finally at least one month before shipping your vehicle to Australia with the VIN # engine # chassis # and date of manufacture. Contact Australian Customs and aquire a "Vehicle Import Approval" certificate and bingo you are done;35
It is very simple just takes a bit of elbow work:v
Reason for all correspondence is that if the RTA or Customs change their minds after you have imported the vehicle you can get them to give exception to you based upon your evidnece form them in writting.;53

As background, my situation is that I have imported a 87 Corvette into OZ in 2004 AND i have a 94 Corvette stranded in the US because I missed the RAWS July 2003 dead line.... so whilst i am not an expert I have had "experience" in importing first hand my cars.
SO IMHO, the above article is great information for those who would wish to import a FEB 1989 or later Corvette into Australia WHEN the vehicle can not be imported under the Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme(RAWS).
The gate has been shut on the importantion of Jan 1989 or later Corvettes UNLESS the owner meets strict requirements.
For the majority of owners, their car must be imported under either:
a. SEVS scheme described above (ie Overseas Ownership for 12 months), OR
b. thru a RAWS approved workshop who basically sponsor the importing.
For those who want it from the Source go here....

Or here...

The good thing about the above article is that it puts in one place ie on this forum .... in readable form (ie no jargon).... an excellent discussion of importing a non- RAWS vehicle... which potentially is any vehicle owned by the importer overseas (read the USA) for 12 months or more....
If the facts above are not correct... lets debate them... and at the end we will all be the wiser.

I agree with you daniel42au ;42
That is why you have to check with the Federal Roads & Traffic Authority before you import they will tell you whether or not ti will be allowed thus Rule # 2
