corvette order copy
jolinari:
hey guys i am just wondering...is it hard to retrieve it from the tank? what is involved? is it time consuming? and what are the recommendations when you get to it...any special way to remove it...etc...
69 DIRTY RAT:
First of all you have to check to see if you still have one on your petrol tank! Peel back the rubber at the opening, get a small light and see if you can see anything on top of the tank.
If your tank is original you may be lucky enough to have it on there BUT most likely if yours is RHD your vette has probably been pulled apart at some stage and the 'tank sticker' (as theyre called) has probably been removed. In most cases the tank sticker is in a poor state (not like the attachment you have) & very brittle. It is stuck on with glue so getting it off is also a major task! Firstly you would have to get the tank out! then somehow peel, scrape the sticker ever so carefully off!
I'm lucky I retrieved my tank sticker back in 98,when I bought the car. It was a barn job and had to be semi restored to get it on the road. I checked the tank and the guy carefully got the sticker off for me! it is still in reasonable condition. I could read probably half of whats on there, then studied it for weeks to get the rest of the info of it!
The good thing about having it is obviously knowing what your vett came with! But also with the info on the tank stick you then can make up a 'window sticker'. The window sticker also came with every car made in the US. It was a piece of paper stuck to the window informing the buyer of what options the car had! Its good to make one up to put on your vette for shows. When ever I put the window sticker on the window heaps of people take an interest in reading the info! You can always guess what you have and make one up? I can always help, its not that hard to work out your - options/codes/prices/make up a dealer name/ and a total price.

some people have been able to see their tank sticker by taking off the filler neck (rubber fitment) around the gas door........other people have suggested using an extendable mirror and looking from underneath.
Ive tried it all, short of dropping the tank.
If you do find it on top of the tank, its usually very difficult to read.
You have the dealer order copy Jo. your lucky! you won't get any extra info on the tank sticker, but I totally understand why you would want to check it out.
Im going to drop my tank one day....(hopefully sometime this year ;ay)
