I want one!

Now I'm not sure if this bloke's havin' us on or not but check this link to see how he's used a Witches Hat (what the US call traffic cones) to create an air coupler from the air filter housing to the 58mm throttle body.

Brutus => You'll especially love this one ... if you're interested in the engineering, the cone is aparently bigger then the stock MAF so slips right over the OEM assembly ..... yeah but it's a Witches Hat fro crying out loud !!

I haven't been over to the CAC for a while and look what I missed!
You have to love their thinking don't ya? I'm looking for something to do that very same job, but I think I'll have to pass on the witch's hat idea.
Do they come in yellow?;ay

I can't see the point in having the entry point 2 inches across going to 4 inches.  :b4

Airflow would actually slow down wouldn't it????

that's why I wasn't sure if this was more an attention stunt ..... surely for better air flow, he'd have a cylindrical tube of equal entry and exit point.

If you guys look you can see where he has cut and shut the witches hat down to the required size on the underside of the witches hat.  Check out picture 4...

Rebel, this guy has converted to the 90-93 Speed Density air measuring system on his 85 so he no longer has a MAF sensor.

For a little background, this idea was started by a few guys on another forum as their way of saying the $50 (approx)smooth intake tubes for (for 85-89 Vettes) and the $200 SAMCO intake tubes (for 90-93?) that are available through the aftermarket are a ripoff.

Some have said airflow (and theoretically performance) can be improved by using a smooth intake tube instead of the accordian style ducts.  I read about the original "traffic cone duct" too long ago to recall if they proved there was no power gain to be had with a small intake tube though.

These guys need to keep in mind that some of us buy these coloured ducts for LOOKS and don't expect a power increase...:b2
