Getting close now...Looking for a Blue Slip...

Hi all,

Well its getting close now for when my vette is finally going to arrive ... and so Id like to start geeting as organised as I can be for when it arrives so I can drive it! ;37 I just can't believe it.

..... looking for a good Blue Slip place in Sydney...Im on the North side of Sydney... can anyone recommend a place for me to get a Blue Slip for my vette???

I'd appreciate any help or advice any of you can give.

Id really like to go on the Brass Monkey run but Im pushing for time...didn't realise once the ship arrives I have to wait damn longer...(Im p#issed off - 1 step forward , 1 hundred steps back) :grr (thats another story!)

to my knowledge Im pretty sure I do not require an engineers report.....just a Blue Slip, as it is over 30 years old (and LHD).

Yea its just a blue slip! You may have to do some minor changes depending on the blue slip guy eg lights dip to left,blinker changed to orange. If you get stuck MJ427 knows a guy down wollongong way!

i checked on it and u deffentley dont need to get engineered if u get stuck and need to do it on a sat let me know and i will organise it for u

Just wondering....whats the go with driving my vette down to Wollongong way to get a Blue Slip check thing, without my vette being registered (cause thats why I need the Blue Slip)....is there a permit? or is it allowed?
Whats the risk?

I would not chance it. No blue slip - No rego - No insurance I would trailer it there just to be safe. Although I am not sure about the laws on transporting it as a TRAFFIC vehicle can any one shed any light on that possibility. If not you might want to check with the RTA. I do know that you used to be able to transport a vehicle to the RTA for your over the pits inspections for cars that used to get defected or ran out of rego & needed to get re-inspected by transporting them there & back with a cardboard number plate displaying the word TRAFFIC on it, but this was all before they made private blue slip inspection sattions more accessable. Like I said call the RTA & find out just to be safe.

Thats good advice.
Yeah, Ill check with the RTA....and besides, it only costs 65$ for a trailer for a day if I need to go down that path.
but Ill definitly check with the rta.

There are at least 2 guys here in the Shire who do blue slips. One of which I have taken my 77 to on a previous occasion and found him to be quite ok.
At the very least it's closer than the Gong for you.

The RTA rules state that you are allowed to drive your vehicle without registration to the NEAREST blue slip station in your area for an inspection. You can acquire a unregistered permit from the RTA to drive your vehicle but you need a pink slip to acquire this permit. So best way is to trailer it as the other guys suggested if your planning to take MJ up on his offer and bring it to the Gong.

I got my Vette, Pontiac and a Commodore done at Seven Hills.

5 mins after the end of the M2 if thats the way you would be coming.

There is a fella on Carrington Rd, Castle Hill who i've been to a few times. Very "understanding" especially when it comes to American Muscle! I think he may drool on your blue slip as he writes it out ;39

Yeah I know the rules regarding driving an unregistered car...can only drive to the closest RTA, or weighbridge, or pink slip or Blue slip place, or place for repairs.....was just wondering if there was a way around it thats all (total long shot!).
but anyway, thats cool...will have to get a trailer or tow anyway, to pick it up from the port warehouse place.
Wanted to take it straight to a Blue Slip place.....but Ill have to suss it out! (I haven't even seen the car yet...who knows if it can drive!!!! - **Touch wood**!).

Im in Manly, but the vette will stay at my bf's place (still on the north shore...but just a little bit further away from the salty sea!!!).

Will ask a few people we know regarding the Blue Slip matter- but Tippa dude that Castle Hill dude sounds like a goer if we don't find anyone 'suitable' near us)!.

Cool. I will keep you guys informed.
Just really want to go on that Brass Monkey run! but Im sure there will be plenty of other runs Ill have fun on.

Am looking forward to seeing my bloody vette! I can tell ya! ....... but scared at the same time....

Hey, where abouts are you getting your vette from? Mine's from CA and just about to be shipped, the shipping company i'm using is bringing one in from Philly at the moment as well (though I assume yours has already come in based on what you said). Can't wait to have mine over here also, i definitely can relate to your feelings of excitement and anticipation, though since I can't register mine legally in NSW till 2008 I'm excited but bummed at the same time (that is of course unless someone in here can find me a nice NT or WA vette driver than can help me rego it in another state for the first couple of years).

Unregistered vehicles can be driven for the purpose of obtaining registration by the most direct or convenient route.:

    * to the nearest convenient vehicle inspection station or authorised inspection station to determine whether the vehicle complies with the applicable vehicle standards, or
    * in the course of inspecting or testing the vehicle to determine if it complies with the applicable vehicle standards, or
    * to the nearest practicable weighbridge to determine the weight of the vehicle, or
    * from a motor registry or inspection station where the registration of the vehicle has been refused, to the nearest convenient place where necessary repairs can be made or where the vehicle can be garaged,
          o unless a direction has been issued that the vehicle must not be driven before the necessary repairs have been made, or
    * from an authorised inspection station to the nearest convenient place where necessary repairs or adjustments can be made or where the vehicle can be garaged, or
    * to the nearest convenient office of a licensed insurer for the purpose of obtaining Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance, or
    * to the nearest convenient location for any other purpose directly associated with the registration process.

An unregistered heavy vehicle returning from a motor registry or inspection station where registration has been refused can only be driven by the most direct or convenient route to the nearest place to obtain an Unregistered Vehicle Permit (UVP).  For more information regarding a UVP contact the RTA Call Centre on 13 22 13.
