AIR PUMP

The loan was very much appreciated VO ! It's a pity I returned it, could have used it again last week!!

MJ427, was yours an original pump? and if so was it the rear roiller bearing that gave out ?

I'm still collecting data about why mine, which has no cage inside now, just a steel shaft, is going through bearings so quickly - I hope this wave washer is 'the' fix.

No problem Stingraynut, I thought the same thing when I read your post.  If you decide to go the air pump delete route I might be able to help you out in the next month or two.  Email me if that is the case. :22

Stingraynut:
Thanks VO, email me with your plans - what are you about to do? something interesting I bet!!

TIPPA:
I know knothing about air pumps so this may be a silly question... If your fan belt is too tight could it lead to bearing failure?

Stingraynut:
Hi TIPPA - Yes, that could be a factor - except that the tensioner sets the belt tension, so assuming you have the correct belt, and the tensioner is between it's marks, everything is as it should be.

And once the tensioner gets old, there's less tension on the belt.

In the case of my original pump, it was the rear bearing that failed. I would expect excess belt tension to more likely damage the front bearing.

I think the failure of the original pumps is probably a result of how many miles the car has done, and that, like many other parts, they just wear out.

The failure of the re-engineered ones is a different matter.
