potential new vet owner
charger49:
Hi all I only just joined the forum it looks to have a wealth of information. I am looking at getting into a vette later in the year. Somewhere between a 68 yo 71 year model, I would prefer to get a big block car but I will wait and see what turns up. I’m not looking for a show car just a good tidy car, which is a driver of fairly close to one. I am a spray painter but trade and would look at doing a respray and resto down the track.
Are there any good books that I can get on the 69 71 vette?
What are there common problem areas for rust corrosion etc?
I just want to do some research now so that I can make a informed decision when I start looking at them.
Thanks Jason

Rust - the frame is about the main area. Haven't seen too many with a problem though - just surface stuff.
The 68's differ slightly in the ft guards behind the wheel as from 69 (or 70?) they didn't wrap under as much to avoid stone chips etc. They also had fibre optics for the lights - something I know nothing about.
They only made 17316 of the 70 model, 21801 of the 71 as opposed to 38762 of the 69.
Get yourself a Corvette Black Book which details the production numbers, rpo codes for each model. When you have bought the car, buy the workshop manual for that year at around $150 - a good investment as it details everything!

Thanks
Where is the best place to get the Corvette Black Book from?

Not sure where you are but any dedicated auto book store such as Drysdales will have it. Check the clubs to see if someone has a spare they might want to part with.
Or ask someone to copy the years you are seeking to start you off (unfortunately I don't have a scanner).
Cheers

I picked up a few books from The Pit shop bookstore, They were out of stock of the black book but should have it in a couple of weeks. I als got the C3 buters guide and Corvette 1968 - 1982.
