Rear Suspension noise

(1/2) > >>

Philip:
Hi again.
Just recently got my 76 blue slipped and road registered. Went for a maiden road journey for about 2Hrs, all went fine except for the rear suspension creaking and squeaking at low speed over speed humps and bumps in the road. Wondered if someone could possibly point me to a likely culprit or a common cause. I replaced the spring hangers a little while back so I don't think it will be that. I suspect that all the rubbers on the rear end are very old. Thanks

sirfixalot:
Rubbers dry or stuffed uni joint look for rust around bearing cap rubbers

Philip:
Thanks Geoff
Uni joints look fine. Certainly sounds like dry rubbers to me, I might start at the struts and work my way through and hope that it's not the trailing arm bushes. Cheers.

sirfixalot:
I  did my uni's on the 78 they looked ok when replaced was totally different. Not real expensive to do, same with strut rods, spring liners also. Are you doing work yourself or paying someone?

Philip:
Doing work myself, haven't had to have work done by others as yet. I have purchased a new set of strut rod bushes but haven't fitted them yet. Strut rods are the adjustable ones, I'm not sure if they are original or not because I don't know if the 76 came with those or the cam type. I haven't had a look at the spring liners though. It will probably be a process of elimination. Thanks again.
