C3 Rack and Pinion Steering

<< < (2/2)

Vettech:
Retoricle (or is it reticulating) question Bfit.

I started on an EK 3 on the tree Station Wagon. It had Power Nothing.

Said no thanks Dad - went to a learn to drive school and a Mini Cooper S. What a difference.

Changed instructor to a Mini Clubman, I've had or driven Mini's, E types, MG'''ss, Austins/Morrises even a Leyland V8.

Oh! And I forgot Phill Lucas's Ford GTHO Ph3, what a buzz, down the old Liddel Highway with a car trailer on the back at (you dont want to know) Mph.

A lot of the above are manual R&P steering, heavy with wide tyres at low speed, but still better than the old reticulating ball.

Vettech:
Done a bit of Googling

Surprised to see quiet a few Aust Sellers of power and manual R&Pinion for both RHD and left hook.

Interesting.

Anyone fitting, a rack and pinion to a stock C3 corvette front suspension is deluding themselves if they think it will work better that the stock draglink design.
If they want a corvette with rack and pinion steering , Buy a c4

Haven't seen a good set up yet lack of turning circle. Acute angles on uni joints from column to rack. Rack gets mounted under motor then tie rod ends have to be replaced with heim joints & spaced down to correct bump steer tells me rack needs to go higher but engine wont allow it to. Show me a good set up.
