C4 1990 Wheels & Tyres.
« on: April 12, 2019, 05:34:42 PM »
Appears the 1990 year model has three OEM wheel configuration.

Std/Z51 -17 x 9.5 F&R with 275/40ZR-17 all round.

ZR-1  17x9.5 F and 17x11 R with 275/40ZR-17 Front & 315/35ZR-17 Rear.

Third style was the Callaway, a diff style alltogether, 9.5's with 275's all round..

My question is:
My 90 is not a ZR1, but has 315's on the rear, so if I go to the trouble of taking one off - is the wheel size embossed on the inside of the rim?
I know that HSV wheels do on the inside there is nill on the outside of mine..

Also OEM tyres were goodyears but there does not appear to be many suppliers of 315/35ZR-17
Nitto or Kumho do a 315, both do slicks, not much in the way of an all round tyre.

any ideas .....

Regards.

OK - I'll whip one off tomorrow morning before I go out for G.M.

It's now tomorro. The 315 is a lot of rubber and must be the upper limit for 9.5" wheels.

See pic below.

89/96 ZR1  ran P315/35ZR17  0n a 9.5’’ wide rim  . As the  engines of those years are low power version it does not cause any problems

My info shows NO ZR1 for 89.

Avail wheels were:
Std/Z51 are 9.5's all round c/w 275's.
Callaway has a different wheel but still 9.5 and 275's all round.

1990 year first for ZR1 - series.
Std/Z51 and Callaway are all 9.5 c/w 275's

The ZR1 has 11" on the rear with 315's
In fact after looking at the sheets it appears that from its inception in 1990 the 11" wheels carried thru to 1996 for the ZR1.

All other styles (Callaway, Z51, Z52, Std, Grand Sport, 35th Anniv) had 9.5's on the rear as OEM equiped cars.

Don’t believe everything you read in those corvette books
They are written by yanks and they tend to embellish some what .

Uncle Doug ZR1s had 11 inch rear wheels 315x35x17 inch tyres and yes that is a lot of tyre for a 9.5 rim. Joys 89 had 9.5 front and 11 rear ZR1 rims .

I think that's what I said.

But of course there is nothing stopping you fitting the 11"s. There is room.

I only raised the conversation because I'll be up for rears very soon unless somebody in Qld offers me a good price.

Upon Googling, I cant see much in the way of 315's (on 17 rims) and since now I've established the rears are 9.5', there are plenty of 275's around and at good prices for 17" rims..

Maybe get them cleaned, polished, sealed, new rubber in the one go, along with some Gabriel gas shockies.

Now if I can just win Lotto........

Don't forget ZR1 is wide body with about1.5" more room under the guards. I'm running 315s on 10.5" Simmons rims. I changed to Kumho and had to add 5mm spacers because the shoulder was slightly squarer and foulded the inner guards when I had a load. Offset is critical on the standard body.

Ah! At last someone has come back with what I'm looking for.

I see KUMHO AND NITTO, in 315 and 275, and with treads, not just slicks, and nice looking treads.

Avail now at a reasonable prìce.  But Tyres aint Tyres.

They may look good but SABRE how do they ride and handle?
