Alternative Fuel Pump for C4
« on: January 31, 2019, 12:11:42 AM »
I am looking for an alternative fuel pump for my 86 C4 (stock).

My C4 fuel pump failed 6 months ago so I sourced an AC Delco replacement from USA.  It lasted 4 months.

I checked the box and under all the stickers it said "made in China for AC Delco Mexico".  The joys of buying online.

I emailed 5 suppliers in USA asking them to confirm that the pump they listed is genuine "Made in USA".

Only one supplier responded that their pump was made in USA, Ecklers.

I ordered the pump and after being stuffed around for 2 months the pump finally arrived, "Made in Brazil".  I am furious.

Now I would like to find a local alternative pump, the Denso in Commodores looks a likely one.

I was hoping the someone has done this homework before me and knows of an easily sourced, reliable local alternative?

Thanks
Peter

I had the same problem with Ecklers on my new window motors , first one lasted no time at all . I then got two from Ecklers as they specified made in USA ,lasted 2 weeks one side 3 months other side they were made in China . I ended up getting my original motors rebuilt by my auto electicion 4 years ago no problems . Maybe your pump can be serviced . Good luck .Ray

I trust you wrote to  Richard Spratt, the CEO of Ecklers, calling him out on the BS. Ecklers was bought out by Spratt's private equity firm in 2012.

Full Throttle Corvette in Georgia has a very good reputation for (a) parts knowledge and (b) no BS. Owner Sam Mooney is very helpful:

Why so?
A headlight conversion I got of them had problems . The replacement had the same problem . It just not worth dealing with companies on the other side of the world.

Thanks for the info guys.

I have sent Ecklers 2 emails, the first when the goods failed to turn up (because a gasket was on backorder and they neglected to tell me), the second when the pump turned up.  I told them the story and how disappointed I am in the service and so far they have ignored both.

Is there anyone in Australia who has a good stock of parts for the C4?

I have a 65 Mustang and I can buy anything for that locally (they did make millions of them).

Still hoping to find a local replacement pump, I don't have a lot of faith in the one from Brazil and would like to have a plan in case it fails on me.

Peter

See the ad for Corvette Alterations & Conversions on the bottom of every forum page. Scott usually holds a wide range of stock. You may be lucky.
