Just use the msd spring and bushes kit. The MSD docs show the expected ignition curve with each bush/spring combination. As you guessed, springs change the rpm at which the ignition advances, the bushes limit the total amount of advance. Easily enough done yourself with a bit of trial and error, and using the expected ignition curves from MSD to pick a good place to start.

With the installation of the spring and bush kit we are where we are supposed to be and all is good!I just noticed last night my low beam headlight is out, next job.
