79 leather steering wheel recovering or new?
« on: April 02, 2018, 08:57:24 PM »
Hi,
The steering wheel on my 79 is skanky. The rest of the wheel is ok, but could do with refurbishment,
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a company to recover the wheel in leather and insert new padding?
Or was there a preference to replace, and where from.
Wheel is a black leather, 3 spokes are clear polished finished, with black hub.
Cheers,
Lefty

Thanks GEOFF,
Were you able to bolt it straight on, or did you need to reuse the old steering wheels boss?
Best

I reused corvette boss the screws are at 11 & 1 o'clock you need to get a wheel with holes at 12 & 6 o'clock & redrill in between holes to suit the corvette pitch circle. With a tilt column you also have to make a spacer to allow the horn button to clear the end of column I used a 90 mm stormwater end cap, bit of shaping covered in black vinyl & all works as per original
