Details of my Corvette below explaining my cry for HELP
1967, 427 Big Block, 4 speed Muncie.
After having no trouble with the speedo a couple of weeks ago it just stopped. No noises etc.
Bought a new inner/outer cable from Qld, paid mechanic to fit and when I picked it up all good til about 35 - 40 mph then a tick, tick, tick, tick followed by continuous loud screeching noises while the speedo needle went beserk bouncing up n down from 50 to 100/120 etc. BIZARRE
So back to workshop, took mechanic for drive, all smooth til 35mph then as accelerating same expensive bloody noises emanated from the speedo area.
Disconnected the cable from behind the speedo, NO noises from the cable.
I am assuming it is not as simple as lubrication but will attempt that first
Guess this is going to be expensive and a problem, if it is the speedo head.
My question is:
I am not a mechanic and living in Coffs limits any mechanics that have worked on Corvettes.
I have done a lot of reading on the forum and I must say it frightens me.
1. If the speedo has to be removed from cluster can anyone in the club recommend a specialist in this field to have it repaired. Probably would be Sydney or Brisbane I guess, or do I have to send it to the states???(God forbid)
I have no idea what parts would need to be ordered to fix this.
My odometer has not worked since I got the Stingray so that would have to be fixed as well.
PLEASE, any advise or help would be much appreciated as to what may be the trouble and who can fix it?.
Any ph numbers or email addresses of someone who can help.
I look forward to you passing this on to appropriate members of the club who may help a fellow C2 owner.
Thanks in advance.
