Coil Mount Location
« on: December 16, 2015, 05:40:54 PM »
 Hey guys,
A really quick one - I hope someone is online to help.
Can I mount my coil directly on top of my MSD unit with out creating cross-currents or anything similar?
Thanks

Not really sure what you are asking here.
Where have you mounted the 6al and where do u want to put that coil.
So long as there is some separation all will be good , but you cannot just plop the coil on top of the 6al as they get a little hot at times at high revs and this may affect the 6al.

I don't see a reason why you could not .
Except for the shrouding effect that may effect cooling of the MSD unit
Personally I would put the coil as close to the distributer as I can to keep the coil output lead as short as Possible
I have seen 6AL units mounted on top the engine valley, I dont get that at all .
Mount them in a good ventilated area  as far from the engine you can with in reason.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks guys. I was relocating some of my vacuum stuff, and wanted to make some room in my engine bay behind my right front wheel well. The prior owner kind of just plonked the coil and the 6AL in the middle of a gap, and nothing else fitted.  I had a brain-wave of piggy backing my coil on my 6AL.  I've just finished mounting the 6AL horizontally on the rear side of the wheel arch about 2" below the top guard, and my coil vertically underneath that beside my washer bottle. My wheel well looks a bit like Swiss cheese now, but I'll clean all of that up when I get around to scrubbing back and  dressing up my front end...
Thanks for the input guys. By the sounds of it, I made the right decision in not doing the piggy back idea 😊
