Being a model that's prior to 1989 manufacture that's a good question.

The 86 vette is currantly registerd so if you cant find
the conversion paperwork take the rego slip and VIN number
to the rms and let them do a search and as said maybe a copy
can be supplied.this document should be in the car always
if the police do a check on the road  ,mine is in a folder behind
my drive seat that is what they told me never travel without
paperwork accident is one reason. My conversion compliance
plate is attached to the firewall behind the brake booster facing up
so it can be read.its a green colour and hard to read buts its there
if you get pink slips for rego they usually read it and may ask for
the paperwork.AS you see all things affect the outcome.and as you mentioned
as is, may be a compromise or just keep the car  A buyer will require things
in the rego transfer etc at the rms if all is in order it will be easy to exchange cash for car

Dear friend, I'm not in a position to judge the
value of the 86 paperwork or not.. as a looker/buyer I would end up
in the same predicament as you if I had to part
with it for some reason so any ifi things scare buyers away
That sort of money these cars are asking you need
to make sure its good for all at the sale!!.

We are back down where the car is at new years, will have lots of helpers to look through all the boxes to see if we can find the paperwork etc. Thank you
