Thanks for the replies, I have been looking on the carpoint website there are a couple on there but only the 1 RHD which I would need. It was previously r registered in Qld but I want NSW rego & I think it has a broken windscreen. It is priced at $30,000. I live at Nelson Bay so I might get the opportunity to speak to some of the members when you do the club run to here in February. Thanks Darren

69VETTE:

Hello Darren, unfortunately as the bulk of imported cars into Australia is either from Qld or SA, and the rest in WA, you have to physically travel to view, then buy, transport to NSW, possibly engineer (sometimes but not always) and register vehicle.

There is an upside to this in that where some won't, then they will have to pay a premium for local cars. Don't be discouraged, as this may work to you're advantage. I'm proof of that.

They currently have tougher seat belt laws than here in NSW so if it was registered under the L02 regs, it's probably ready to be registered in NSW; provided it hasn't been modified and will pass a pink slip inspection.

Hello StephenSLR, that ain't entirely true. Many engineers here don't want to even know a vehicle from QLD with an Lo2 plate. . personally if your going to bring in a vette from another state, contact a reputable & RTA certified engineer here and ask about the changes that might be required.

I had brought in a 69 vette from QLD some seven years ago and didn't have dramas, but things have changed in the past few years.

Every engineer will still want to go over it in their own way, regardless.  From what I've read, the L02 regs are tougher than ours, for instance the rear seats require lap-sash belts where lap belts will do in NSW.

Most definitely!
Do let them know it was previously registered in QLD, there's less paperwork involved than a direct import.
