I purchased my 70 coupe while living in Cleveland Ohio on a 3-1/2 year working assignment, and then spent a couple of winters working away on repairing the many flaws that I found prior to bringing my "early mid-life crisis" home with us. Unlike so many other Corvette Owners, I haven't always been a Corvette specific fan however I've always been a fan of any vehicle with grunt, and old school grunt was always at the top of the list. My car was intended to be a daily driver, which turned into USA memento as soon as it landed in my driveway. I looked at Mustangs, however everyone had one, they were primitive in build, and most of the affordable clean cars were 6 cylinder versions, and who really wants a six? I looked at Camaros, however rust free options were as common as blue moons and hen's teeth, and if you did find one, you had to pay show car prices for something that was very average. I had some work buddies with Vettes and thought that I'd look into them a little closer. Eventually I found something on ebay that caught my attention; however I managed the seller to take it off line so I didn't get into a bidding war. It didn't tick a single box on my check list, other than the Corvette badge, but I wanted it regardless. I had check lists for functional components, local spotters and all sorts of safety nets in place, but the reality was that after transferring some cash to a chap in Massachusetts, (and then him ransoming the release of my car to get another $500), I had no idea what I had purchased until it arrived on the transporter. I break something almost every time that I drive my car, but it's always something new, so I figure with time, persistence and a lot more driving, I'll soon have a brand new 1970 Corvette..... Lovin' the challenge!!
