My '88 Coupe was previously owned by Bill Cox so the car has a history of being part of the Western Event Coordination activity. Many members have heard the story of my wife's eBay purchase of an '88 roadster but only a few realise that the Coupe was actually bought for parts to get the roadster registered. I became aware that a club member (Richard Stones) had the car and although a little worn, it was extremely original. It still had all of the anti-pollution gear and ran well. When it was passed in at auction Richard convinced me that it was too good to pass up. After fixing a few little issues and taking the car on a couple of runs I felt I could not wreck such a good and original vette and it became my daily drive. The car runs extremely well and everything works so it is a joy to drive. The vette trailer was a project for the 2014 convention. I had toyed with the idea and was told that it was too hard. Naturally I had to prove this to be wrong, but in hind sight it was more work than I had anticipated, taking three months to build. The trailer owes its shape to the roadster which was used to make the moulds and boasts a stepped chassis to get it to the right ride height. It's finished in clear over base like the car and has electric brakes because a C4 doesn't have spare capacity. As a recent retiree, I'm looking forward to being a regular on as many runs as possible. I find the members of the club to be a great bunch of people and enjoy the club camaraderie immenely. |
