"Candy" Allen and Kerry's '76 - Membership number 540 May 2014

I grew up around cars, my father being an engineer/mechanic and an elder brother who has for all his years been heavily involved in the national hotrod scene. I developed a love for American muscle cars and in my early twenties bought my first one, a '67 Pontiac GTO (boy I wish I still had it). Toys were put on hold for a while (marriage and kids tend to do that) but as soon as I had the chance I bought a '78 Pontiac Firebird which was done up a bit Pro Stock (boy I wish I still had it too). Then along came a '65 Chev Bellaire convertible but it didn't hang around too long as life circumstances changed and toys were out of the question once again for a while.
In early 2014 I started to get the itch for another toy to play with and decided that now I didn't have to worry about fitting more than two people in a car that a vet could be the way to go. Anyway in early June I found one on Gumtree that looked promising and cheap. It was in Townsville and after many phone calls, emails and photo's I decided to buy it and have it transported down. The story goes that the guy had owned it for many years and back in 2010 he decided to strip it down for a rebuild. He had it re-sprayed (Cherry Black Mica) then put it back in his garage whilst he started buying all the new bits to put it back together and that's where the project stopped. So what I basically bought was a rolling shell and boxes and crates full of new and used parts. That's where my fun began, working out where everything had to go, so the internet became a good friend. It actually turned out to be more work (and expense) than I had anticipated due to the fact that it had been sitting for so long as all the brakes had seized and needed replacing, steering seals were leaking etc., etc. Anyhow nine months later I had it finished and on the road. There are still a few more things that I want to do her or replace but we're pretty happy with the way she's turned out and now it's time for us to enjoy and have some fun.
